You may not know this…but My New Release started because our sister company, Magnolia Red [Artist Management, Publishing & Production], was getting requests and questions from outside artists regarding their business: regarding publishing, website needs, promotions and marketing, etc. that we decided we needed to fill the educational and practical void

Many times, I think that most people [musicians included], don’t view an artist’s career as a business.  They just get up and sing in front of people…right?  Wrong. Wait, you mean they do more than look like rock stars and take shots after a show?! Um, yes! Like every other business, there are essential needs for it to function healthily and properly [with organization, might I add J].  An artist needs so many things to function well – publishing, distribution, online platforms to connect with fans, a business entity [DBA or LLC], ways to measure their progress, well written information about them, and more.

The carrot being chased at the end of the proverbial stick is often a label deal, management, a booking contract, radio play or a spot on VHS’s Top 10 Countdown [that show still exists, right?].  Well, I hate to break it to you, but things like that don’t just happen overnight. OR because you have this one great song you recorded on your laptop that you burned on a blank CD and handed to the head of Sony BMG.  While many artists can find representation without having EVERYTHING put together, most artists cannot.  And presenting yourself to a bunch a professionals without the foundation of your business doesn’t bode well or make you seem serious about your career.  Having things set up like your materials registered with your PRO, having a well written biography, distribution know how, a direct to fan platform and a DBA already in the works is very impressive to those who will partner with you to build your career.  There’s a saying that goes, “If you have been entrusted with little, you can be entrusted with much.”  Well, then, start being responsible for what you have now so when you are #1 on Billboard, you will have the foundation to support it.

This is where we think My New Release comes in.  We can do the foundational work of setting these accounts up, and deciphering with you what is most important for the direction you are going – then we hand back the reigns to you to impress the world with how established and professional you are. Worth it? We think so.
